Unplugged inductive chargers facilitate the longest subsea drone operation in the world.

07.05.2024

Saipem's Hydrone-R underwater intervention drone, which is currently deployed in Equinor's Njord Field development project offshore Norway, has successfully completed a continuous subsea residency of 167 days.

The drone's primary functions include performing inspections and interventions on subsea installations, thereby enhancing the safety and integrity of Equinor’s subsea operations by identifying potential risks.

The drone subsea residency is enabled by the inductive charging station. Unplugged is the company responsible for designing the inductive couplers found both in the charging station and within the drone itself.

  • 167 days continuous operational dive (world record)
  • 280+ docking/undocking activities
  • 10+ autonomous missions
  • 35 manipulations, including valve opening and closing
